Diabetes Bus Classes head southeast 8.20.2010
Partnering with Coastal Carolinas Health Alliance and four member hospitals; Duplin General Hospital in Kernersville, Bladen County Hospital in Elizabethtown, Pender Memorial Hospital in Burgaw, and New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington- the Diabetes Bus Initiative classes, free and open to the public, will begin in late September, early October. We look forward to collaborating with these dedicated organizations to bring better health outcomes to southeast North Carolina in our effort to reduce the burden of diabetes in this state.

DMS and partner awarded Duke Endowment Grant 6.17.2010
Diabetes Management Solutions, the home of The Diabetes Bus Initiative and Coastal Carolinas Health Alliance have been awarded a three-year Duke Endowment Fund grant "Collaborating to Restore Hospital Community Diabetes Self-Management Education" This award will allow DMS to administer the restoration of diabetes education programs to six community hospitals in Southeastern North Carolina by 2012."We are excited to be working with CCHA and these six hospitals to bring quality diabetes self-management and at-risk programs to these communities", said Kim Hanchette, CEO and Founder of Diabetes Management Solutions.

NC State Diabetes Leaders meet to set Strategic 5- year plan 3.22.2010
North Carolina health leaders, including two members of The Diabetes Bus Initiative team, Kim Hanchette,MEd,CDE and Sue Liverman,RN,CDE met March 18th, 19th in Raleigh to develop a five year strategic plan to prevent and control diabetes in North Carolina.

DMS founder Kim Hanchette will be participating in a discussion about the importance of diabetes prevention and management on OPEN/net Tuesday, January 12 from 8 to 9 pm. DMS receives GSK IMPACT Award 12.10.2009
Diabetes Management Solutions, home of The Diabetes Bus Initiative®, received one of nine GlaxoSmithKline IMPACT Awards of $40,000 for its efforts in underserved areas of central North Carolina. The award was presented at a ceremony Dec. 10, 2009 by GSK in partnership with the Triangle Community Foundation.
“The IMPACT Award is a tremendous recognition of what we have accomplished to date, and I believe it shows confidence in our mission of expanding free diabetes self-management education and support to underserved areas throughout the state,” said Hanchette.
“All of the GlaxoSmithKline first annual IMPACT Award winners are committed to the idea that everyone should have better access to healthcare and that no one should fall through the cracks. These organizations are on the front lines as change agents, working to build stronger and healthier communities. They are all deeply committed to their work and clients,” said Mary Linda Andrews, GlaxoSmithKline director, Community Partnerships.

DMS wins $40,000 in Funding from GlaxoSmithKline 11.5.2009
GlaxoSmithKline in partnership with the Triangle Community Foundation today announced the recipients of the GlaxoSmithKline 1st Annual IMPACT Awards for providing access to healthcare. Each North Carolina-based nonprofit located within the four county region of Chatham, Durham, Orange and Wake will receive a $40,000 award.

DMS has been selected as one of BCBSNC Foundation's grantees to be included in their Annual Report. The report will include an NPR-style audio story about The Diabetes Bus Initiative available on BCBSNC Foundation's website and the print version will be introduced November 12th, 2009 at the National Philanthropy Day Awards Luncheon at Prestonwood Country Club in Cary.
