Welcome! We are providing free diabetes self-management classes to underserved communities in North Carolina. We do ask for an optional donation for the class series. We stress that if class participants cannot afford their medications or diabetes supplies, we do not wish for them to donate. Our classes are all taught by Certified Diabetes Educators. Please complete this one page patient referral and fax it to our office with a cover sheet. Please make sure to include all relevant information. No insurance or additional patient information is necessary.

"Not once have I sent someone to the Diabetes Bus classes and had a patient come back and say it was not worth their time. By bringing an education program that is down-to-earth and easy to understand, these classes have dramatically affected people's willingness to acknowledge that they have a problem and to take action to control their disease. My patients come back to me so much more informed and ready to handle their disease with help from me, but not asking me to handle it for them. I thank the Diabetes Bus staff for making that happen!" Peggie Parks, Physician Assistant, Mount Olive Family Medicine Center.
John Mangum, MD, Sanford Medical Group
“I have found this to be an excellent educational program for diabetics. Those newly diagnosed or those who are struggling to get their diabetes under good control come away from the sessions with a richer understanding of the pathophysiology of diabetes and the critically important role of their own diet and exercise pattern in managing this condition. If the Diabetes Bus program were not available, I really do not know how the void in diabetes education would be filled in this community. My patients would suffer.” John Mangum, MD, Sanford Medical Group, Past President, NC Medical Society
